PSTA-Principle

Common mistake

A common mistake lays in the assumption that kinetic parameters calculated for the thermoanalytical conditions represented by point A are characteristic for other thermoanalytical conditions laying in the space limited by the boundaries imposed by instrument's restrictions, i.e.:

  • 1 mg < sample weight: S < 1000 mg,
  • 1 vol% < concentration of the reactive gas or evolved gas: C < 100 vol%,
  • 10 mL/min < carrier gas flow: F < 500 mL/min

Actually, the kinetic parameters calculated from the data obtained under ''arbitrarily chosen conditions'' (point A) are valid only for this point and its vicinity (see isokinetic space) in the three-dimensional space.
